As I have not kept this topic updated, I have decided to finally blog what my dissertation topic is. Based on the best part of 4 months of back and forth with Mike, it has finally reunified my Major Project and Dissertation models, and the combined research from both modules should, theoretically at least, boost the chances of both being reasonably more informed. Taken straight from the introduction:
“The primary undertaking of this dissertation is to provide a framework for future studies into how advancements in Personal Computing technology is affecting the social interaction of individuals in developed countries.”
The reading list is primarily based around the following books, and is by no means an exhaustive list. These books, however, form the core thinking around the topic in question.
Bruno Latour: Reassembling the Social: An Introduction to Actor-network-theory.
Adam Greenfield: Everyware – The coming age of ubiquitour computing
Clay Shirkey: Here Comes Everyone – The power of organizing without organizations
